The intent of the artist was to portray the Child Jesus contemplating the vision of His future Passion. Frightened by the vision, he runs to his mother for consolation. The anguish He feels is shown by the loss of one of His sandals as he quickly flees into the arms of his Mother. The piece reminds us all to remember we are able to be consoled in the arms of the Theotokos, who will lead us to her most perfect Son.

One is Flat (as pictured) and the other is "Ball & Chain" which is a thin chain with tiny balls spaced out on the chain - if you don't know what this is reach out and we will be happy to provide a photo for you.
